Top 15 high school athletic performances in Gibson County during 2023-24 season
With the Dead Period now here, we will end our look back at the 2023-24 school year this week. We have looked at the most memorable games, top teams and top coaching jobs in the county this past season, so now we will look at the top athletic performances in a single season.
1. Micah Hart (Gibson County girls basketball, Sr.) – Hart seemed to put it all together for her senior year. She led the Lady Pioneers to the Class 2A state championship, was named the state tournament MVP and earned the title of the Class 2A Miss Basketball. She also became the all-time leading scorer in program history. Hart, a Bethel signee, averaged 20.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.9 steals, as she shot 53.3 percent.
2. Raven Milan (Milan girls track & field, Sr.) – Milan brought home the first state championship for the Lady Bulldogs since 1984. She competed in the Class A state meet in two events – long jump and 100-meter dash – winning a state title in the long jump with a distance of 16-feet, 11.75-inches.
3. Tommy Baker (South Gibson baseball, So.) – Baker helped lead the Hornets to the Class 3A state tournament with a top-six finish. He batted .432 this season with 54 total hits – including 12 doubles, three triples and 11 home runs – to go with 41 RBI, 54 runs and 23 stolen bases.
4. Claire Nelson (Milan volleyball, Sr.) – Nelson helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to the Class A state tournament for the first time in program history, along with winning the District 13-A and Region 7-A championships. She finished the season with 533 assists, 248 digs, 46 kills and 69 aces.
5. Sierra Healy (South Gibson girls soccer, Jr.) – Healy helped lead the Lady Hornets to the Class AA state semifinals for the second time in program history after winning the District 13-AA and Region 7-AA titles. She recorded 33 goals with seven assists.
6. Jaydon Peete (Milan football, So.) – Peete had a breakout season for the Bulldogs as they reached the Class 2A second round with nine wins on the season. He finished the year with 118 total tackles with 24 tackles for loss, seven sacks and four punt blocks with one returned for a touchdown. Offensively, he rushed the ball 78 times for 778 yards and 13 touchdowns.
7. Aubrey Colvin (South Gibson girls soccer, Jr.) – Colvin was the offensive leader for the Lady Hornets as she helped them reach the Class AA state semifinals for the second time in program history. She finished the season with 38 goals and 16 assists.

8. Hallie Allen (South Gibson girls basketball, Sr.) – Allen, a Campbellsville signee, helped lead the Lady Hornets to the Class 3A state semifinals for the second straight season. She averaged 13.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals, while shooting 40 percent from the field.
9. Cade Allen (South Gibson baseball, So.) – Allen proved himself on the national stage playing with the U15 USA Baseball National Team, and he helped the Hornets to a top-six finish in the Class 3A state tournament. He went 8-3 in 59.1 innings pitched as he struck out 85 with a 1.19 ERA. Opposing batters held a .126 average against him.
10. Stephon Shivers (Humboldt boys basketball, Jr.) – Shivers was a three-star offensive lineman for the Vikings last season, but he was also a key component of the Vikings’ run to the Class 1A sectionals. He averaged 16.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

11. Gabe Lovorn (South Gibson football, Jr.) – Lovorn has been a force for the Hornets as they finished second in Region 6-4A last season. Lovorn took over at running back after Week 2 and he rushed for 1,256 yards and 18 touchdowns on 150 carries to go with eight catches for 115 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he had 23 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack and two quarterback hurries.
12. Fred Moore (Humboldt boys basketball, Sr.) – Moore helped provide the 1-2 punch for the Vikings in the post with Stephon Shivers as the team reached the Class 1A quarterfinals. He averaged 16.7 points and 7.6 rebounds.
13. Hailey Stines (South Gibson softball, Sr.) – Stines helped lead the Lady Hornets back to the Class 3A state tournament. She went 22-7 in the circle with 164.2 innings pitched, striking out 114.
14. Rebecca Wood (Bradford girls basketball, Sr.) – Wood helped the Lady Red Devils reach the Region 7-1A quarterfinals. She averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds and set the single-game scoring record with 48 points against Clarksburg.
15. Hannah Prestininzi (Gibson County volleyball, Jr.) – Prestininzi helped lead the Lady Pioneers to the Class A state tournament for the second straight season. She finished with 831 assists, 114 aces, 141 digs and 63 digs.
