Jimmerson resigns, Harris promoted to South Gibson softball head coach
When Baron Jimmerson announced his resignation as the South Gibson softball coach, the administration didn’t have to look far to find his replacement. And it is one that knows the South Gibson softball program well.
South Gibson promoted assistant coach and alumnus Aly Harris to the new head coach.
“I am so thankful to have the opportunity to coach at a school that holds such a special place in my heart,” Harris said. “The future is bright for the Lady Hornets and I am grateful to be a part of it”, commented Harris. “I want to thank Coach Jimmerson for his dedication and commitment to the softball program over the last several years. Our softball team would not be where it is today without him. I am forever grateful to have coached and learned from him.”
Harris has been the assistant under Jimmerson for the past two seasons. Later on Friday, Jimmerson announced he was headed to Crockett County to take over the softball program.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank SGC for their support they provided to me while working with the softball program. I wish the girls and the entire school organization much continued success”, said Jimmerson.
South Gibson athletic director Mark Dunn added, “We at South Gibson would like to thank Coach Jimmerson for everything he has done over the past 7 years or so with our girls’ softball program. It has been a joy and privilege to work with him and to see the great success that his teams have had. He will definitely be missed, but his stamp on this program will continue for many years to come.”
She played at South Gibson and helped lead them to their first state tournament appearance in 2015. She was a two-time All-West Tennessee softball hitter of the year in 2014 and ’15.
As a sophomore, Harris — or Walker at the time — batted .540 this past season with 62 RBI, 18 home runs and nine doubles. As a junior, she batted .517 with 10 doubles, three triples and eight home runs to go along with 26 RBI and 39 runs scored.
During her final three years of high school, Harris batted .512 with 111 RBIs, 31 home runs and 30 doubles to be named to the All-West Tennessee all-decade team from 2010-19.
South Gibson is coming off a 29-10-2 season with its first trip back to the Class 3A state tournament since 2015.
