Gibson County won the Class 2A state championship in March 2024.

Over the past two weeks, we have looked back at the most memorable games and the top teams from the 2023-24 school year across Gibson County.

Now, we are going to look at the top 15 coaching jobs done in the county during the year.

1. Mitch Wilkins (Gibson County girls basketball) – While many thought that the Lady Pioneers would be good, winning the Class 2A state championship was not a certainty. Gibson County went 38-1 on the season, winning the District 14-2A and Region 7-2A titles over the two-time defending state champions Westview. Gibson County had no easy games at the state tournament this year with a quarterfinal matchup against his son at Huntingdon in the quarterfinals, a semifinal matchup against the pre-tournament favorite York Institute and a championship win over perennial power Loretto.

2. Jason James (Milan boys basketball) – James got this Bulldog team to peak at just the right time to reach the Class 2A sectionals for the second time in three years. Humboldt won 19 games as it won the District 13-1A championship and reached the Region 7-1A semifinals before losing to South Fulton. Humboldt started the 2024 part of the season winning 12 of 14 games.

5. Greg Scott (Milan baseball) – For the first time in program history, Scott led the Bulldogs to back-to-back Class 2A state tournament appearances.
