Top 15 rising seniors in Weakley County for the 2024-25 school year

With the dead period now in the books, it is time to look toward the new school year.
Throughout June, we looked at the best that the 2023-24 year had to offer with most memorable games, top teams, top coaching jobs and top athletes.
Now, we will look at who the top rising seniors are for the 2023-24 year. These are athletes that you should get out and watch this season.
1. McCall Sims (Westview girls basketball, softball) – Sims was named the All-Weakley County player of the year in girls basketball and softball last year. She has committed to continue her softball career at the University of Tennessee after she graduates. In softball, she helped the Lady Chargers reach the Class 2A state semifinals as she batted .658 with 50 hits, 46 RBI, 12 home runs and 40 runs, while going 15-6 as a pitcher in 139.2 innings, including 242 strikeouts and a 1.15 ERA. In basketball, she averaged 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while shooting 39.8 percent from the field.
2. Luke Stephenson (Westview boys golf) – Stephenson, the 2023 All-Weakley County boys golfer of the year, averaged a 77.25 through four rounds of postseason play as he led the Chargers to the Class A state tournament. He shot a 75 in the District 12-A tournament, 80 in the Region 6-A tournament and finished 11th in the state with a 154 (77-77).
3. Maddie Gray (Westview girls basketball) – Gray transferred in over the summer from South Fulton, where she helped lead the Lady Red Devils to the Class 1A state tournament. She was named to the TSWA All-State Class 1A team as she averaged 20.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while shooting 48.4 percent from the field.
4. Halle Trevathan (Westview girls cross country) – Trevathan, the 2023 All-Weakley County girls cross country runner of the year, reached the Class A-AA state meet after finishing runner-up in the Region 7 A-AA meet with a time of 20:43.49. At state, she finished 32nd with a time of 20:41.29.
5. Brenley Little (Greenfield girls cross country/Dresden track & field) – Little was named the 2024 All-Weakley County girls track & field athlete of the year. In the fall, Little reached the Class A-AA state meet after finishing sixth in the Region 7 A-AA meet with a time of 21:35.70. At state, she finished 26th with a time of 20:31.12. In the spring, she competed in the Class A state meet at Middle Tennessee State University in one event, finishing fourth in the 3200-meter runs with a time of 12:34.33.
6. Allie Spaulding (Dresden girls basketball) – Spaulding was one of the Lady Lions better shooters and was efficient from 3-point range. She averaged 11.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.1 steals, while shooting 33.5 percent from 3-point range.
7. Ethan Hatler (Westview boys golf) – Hatler averaged an 82 through four rounds of postseason play. He shot an 80 in the District 12-A tournament, 78 in the Region 6-A tournament and finished 33rd in the state with a 170 (87-83).
8. Lakyn Rogers (Westview softball) – Rogers’s bat was a big reason why the Lady Chargers got back to the Class 2A semifinals last season, and she was honored as all-state for her performance. She batted .439 with 43 hits, 33 runs, 14 RBI and one home run.
9. Anderson Cary (Westview baseball) – Cary quickly proved that he had the ability to dominate on the mound as he helped the Chargers to third place in Region 7-2A last season. He had a 7-3 record with a 2.04 ERA and 32 strikeouts. He also had one home run, one triple and four doubles.
10. Anna Grace Abernathy (Greenfield girls basketball) – Abernathy played well in the post and played a key role in the Lady Yellowjackets reaching the Class 1A semifinals. She averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds.
11. Tyler Belew (Westview football) – Belew was a consistent target for Chargers’ quarterback Miles Vincent last season as they reached the Class 3A second round. He had 28 catches for 306 yards and five touchdowns.
12. Alexis Evans (Westview girls basketball) – Evans played in the post for the Lady Chargers last season as the team made its 12th straight appearance in the Class 2A state tournament. She averaged 6.3 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 51.9 percent from the field.
13. Cooper Spaulding (Westview baseball) – Spaulding got more consistent at the plate as the season progressed and was key defensively in the infield as the Chargers finished third in the Region 7-2A tournament. He batted .321 with 21 stolen bases, one triple and four doubles.
14. Brice Rother (Dresden boys track & field) – Rother competed in the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run at the Class A West sub-sectional at Union City. He was 12th in the 800 with a time of 2:23.27 and 11th in the 1600 with a time of 5:28.15.
15. Cody Meeks (Westview football) – Meeks was a first team all-region selection last year at running back as the Chargers reached the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. He had 65 carries for 488 yards and seven touchdowns.
