Dorothy Virginia Messick Farner

Dorothy Virginia Messick Farner, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 25, 1943, Dorothy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a woman whose influence on her community was both lasting and profound.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Farner; her parents, Luther and Irma Messick; her siblings Ruth Robinson, Eileen Messick, and Harry Messick; and three great-granddaughters.
Dorothy devoted 25 years of her life to coaching youth soccer, helping shape the character and confidence of countless young athletes. Her dedication to service extended into her community work as a volunteer at the Freewill Shelter and as a Vista Volunteer. She was also an active member of the FCE and the Flamboyant Red Hatters, where she formed many cherished friendships.
A devout member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Dorothy was honored with the Bishop’s Cross in recognition of her faith and service. Her passion for civic engagement also led her to run for public office in Granby, N.Y.
Dorothy had a deep appreciation for the arts, particularly painting and photography. She created a space within the Green Frog that showcased artwork and photography from local artists, offering a platform for creativity and connection within the community.
She is survived by her three children: Dawn Lingenfelter (Michael), Jason Farner (Joanna), and Kenneth Farner (Harmony); six grandchildren: Jaime Risk, Douglas Farner, David Lingenfelter, Shelby Jenkins, Joyner Pollard, and Jason Farner Jr.; and her twelve beloved great-grandchildren.
Dorothy will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the massive influence she had on everyone whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, community, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Humboldt.
