Top 15 high school coaching jobs in Weakley County during 2023-24 season

Over the past two weeks, we have looked back at the most memorable games and the top teams from the 2023-24 school year across Weakley County.

Now, we are going to look at the top 15 coaching jobs done in the county during the year.

1. Tori Liggett (Greenfield girls basketball) – Liggett led the Lady Yellowjackets back to the Class 1A state tournament for the first time since 2020. Greenfield won a game at the state tournament with a 55-49 victory over North Greene to finish as one of the top four teams in the state. Greenfield finished the season with a 23-11 record and won the District 14-1A championship before finishing runner-up in Region 7-1A.

2. Craig Rogers (Westview softball) – Even though the Lady Chargers lost seven seniors from last year’s Class 2A state championship team, Rogers helped the team get right back to the state tournament with a semifinal finish. Westview won the District 14-2A and Region 7-2A championships on the way to reaching the state tournament and finishing with a 23-9 record.

3. Brian Haskins (Westview girls basketball) – Haskins helped the Lady Chargers earn a 12th straight trip to the Class 2A state tournament, but this year was different as Miss Basketball winner Jada Harrison had graduated and two starters went down with injuries during the season. But Westview was the District 14-2A and Region 7-2A runner-up on the way to reaching the Class 2A quarterfinals.

4. Mike Riggs (Gleason boys basketball) – Riggs did something that hadn’t been done in over 50 years as he led the Bulldogs to the District 14-1A championship game, hosted a Region 7-1A quarterfinal and played in the region semifinals. Gleason finished the year with a 19-13 record.

5. Keith Hodge (Dresden football) – Hodge led the Lions to 13 straight wins on the season before they lost to McKenzie in the Class 1A state semifinals. Dresden went through a perfect 10-0 regular season as the team won the Region 7-1A championship.

6. Brandy Spendlove (Westview girls soccer) – Spendlove led the Lady Chargers to the Class A semifinals for the first time in program history. Westview went 18-2, winning the District 12-A and Region 6-A championships on the way to the state tournament.

7. Noah Lampkins (Gleason football) – While the Bulldogs didn’t reach the Class 1A semifinals, they had six wins for only the second time since 2013. Gleason won three non-region games and three Region 7-1A games.

8. Chase Manley (Westview boys soccer) – The Chargers reached the Class A state tournament for the fourth time in program history. Westview went 15-4-1, winning the District 12-A championship and finishing runner-up in Region 6-A.

9. Scott Guymon (Westview baseball) – Guymon led the Chargers to a third-place finish in Region 7-2A after finishing runner-up in District 14-2A. Westview opened the region tournament with a win over Scotts Hill.

10. Jennifer Brooks (Dresden softball) – Brooks led the Lady Lions to a perfect 15-0 regular season. Dresden was eliminated in the District 14-1A tournament.

11. Chandler Malray (Gleason baseball) – Malray helped turn the Bulldogs’ baseball program around. Gleason picked up 10 wins during the season and finished fourth in the District 14-1A tournament.

12. Ben Carter (Dresden baseball) – Carter led the Lions to a third-place finish in Region 7-1A after winning the District 14-1A tournament. Dresden won 20 games for a .667 winning percentage.

13. Sean Stephenson (Gleason girls basketball) – Stephenson helped lead the Lady Bulldogs back to the Region 7-1A tournament during a rebuilding year. Gleason beat Dresden in the first round of the District 14-1A tournament to finish with a 15-15 record.

14. Willie Trevathan (Westview boys basketball) – The Chargers had a rollercoaster season, finishing 14-14 and reaching the Region 7-2A semifinals. Westview finished third in District 14-2A.

15. Jarod Neal (Westview football) – In his final season with the Chargers, Neal led them to the Class 3A second round before losing to Dyersburg. Westview finished with a 7-5 record.
