“Perfection!”

“Oh brother, this is going to be a long week,” Union City sports editor Gabriel Jackson grumbled Monday morning.

“You can call me the 1972 Miami Dolphins, or the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers or the 2019 LSU Tigers,” I replied.

“That is a little stretch of the imagination,” Jackson chuckled. “If you were that invincible, you wouldn’t have those nine misses on the season.”

“Maybe we should get a banner made to hang in Martin City Hall!” I said.

“Maybe you should focus on getting your stories in from last week, so we can print a paper today,” Jackson replied.

I was a perfect 15-for-15 with my picks last week and gained three more games on my lead on Jackson.

Jackson went 12-3 last week with losses coming in Covington’s win over Obion County, Union City’s win over Halls and Lakeland Prep’s win over Fayette-Ware.

In picking Obion County and Weakley County games, I am 28-2 (.933 winning percentage), while Jackson is 19-11 (.633).

For the season, I hold a 12-game lead on Jackson. I have gone 66-9 (.880), while Jackson has gone 54-21 (.720).

Can I have another perfect week this week?

Obion County (3-2, 0-2 7-3A) at Dyersburg (3-2, 2-0)

This will be the third straight big hitter for the Rebels with Westview and Covington over the past two weeks. Dyersburg hasn’t been consistent so far this season, so Obion County will try to get a big win here.

Westview (5-0) at Lausanne (1-2)

This will be another road test for the Chargers. The Lynx are coming off their first win of the season, and they are going to bring a tough defense to try and stop Westview’s offense.

West Carroll (0-5, 0-2 7-1A) at Greenfield (3-2, 0-1)

Everything for here on out is a region contest for the Yellowjackets. This would be a great start, picking up the first region win of the season.

Gleason (0-5) at Perry County (1-4)

The Bulldogs gave Lake County its first win last week. Perry County has had its struggles this season, but the game is on the road. Perry County is a tough place to play.

Ballard Memorial (Ky.) (2-2) at South Fulton (3-1)

The Red Devils continue to gain momentum after the early loss to Humboldt, and this is a great chase to put a team away early and cruise to a victory.

Peabody (3-2, 1-1 7-2A) at Union City (2-3, 1-0)

There will be some playoff implications decided in this game. What those will be won’t be fully known until Week 11. But a loss here will put a team in a tough spot to try and earn a playoff spot.

The Lions are the defending region champions, but Humboldt is looking to win a region title this year. And the first five games has shown the firepower that the Vikings have this season.
