Ben Johnson resigns as South Gibson football coach

After four years in charge of the South Gibson football team, head coach Ben Johnson has resigned as coach of the Hornets, as he will be the new head coach at Evangelical Christian School.

Johnson is coming off a 10-4 season in charge of South Gibson as he led the program to its first-ever appearance in the Class 4A semifinals.

In his four seasons in charge, the Hornets have a 29-19 record with four straight trips to the Class 4A playoffs, including two appearance in the second round and the one semifinal appearance.

Evangelical Christian School is coming off a 3-8 season with former Trinity Christian Academy coach Blake Butler in charge. Butler resigned at the end of the season.

South Gibson athletic director Mark Dunn confirmed that South Gibson will immediately begin the search for a new head coach. This will be the third head coach in the history of the Hornets’ football program. Scott Stidham coached South Gibson for the first 12 years of the program’s history before resigning to take a job in Middle Tennessee.

Since the start of the program, South Gibson has a 108-66 record over 16 years.
