Rutherford School holds ‘Pack the Bus Food Drive’

By Lori Cathey

Recently a big yellow school bus was parked in front of Rutherford School at the door entrance accepting food donations for Pack the Bus Food Drive. The food drive began at 8 a.m. and ended when  the bus pulled out at 6:15 p.m.

The goal of the food drive is to pack the seats of the school bus with kid-friendly items that are needed. All food items collected at Pack the Bus event will be distributed to Rutherford students.

This year the Pack the Bus Food Drive had a great turnout and support from students, parents and the community. Some of the items collected were fruit cups, juice boxes, granola bars, ramen noodles, crackers, popcorn, peanut butter, cheese crackers, instant oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, canned pastas, Rice Krispie treats, applesauce and cereal.

Rutherford Pack the Bus Food Drive asks for food that doesn’t require cooking, readily accessible and only pop-top cans.

Rutherford guidance Counselor Toni Patton coordinates the program. Rutherford School will accept food donation any time during the school year
