GC Lady Pioneers volleyball team defeats Lake County

The Gibson County Lady Pioneers volleyball team won their match with Lake County 3 to 1 Tuesday night at Gibson County. Senior Ashley O’Daniel led the team with three kills, four aces and 14 serves as Kelly Morgan added three kills, two aces, two digs and six serves. Maddie Neal finished with one kill, three aces and 14 serves while Brylea Young had two kills, one dig, one ace and nine serves. Caitlyn Mayberry contributed three kills, one ace and seven serves while Savannah Allred had three aces, one dig and six serves and Liz Hunt added one kill, three aces and six serves.

The Lady Pioneers scored the first three points of the set but the Lady Falcons scored five straight points to take a 5 to 3 lead. The Lady Falcons opened up a 13 to 8 lead but Lady Pioneer Maddie Neal served for the next three points to pull the Lady Pioneers within three points. The Lady Falcons scored 10 of the next 14 points for a 25 to 17 set win to take a 1-0 match lead.

Senior Maddie Neal open up the second set, serving five straight points and Gibson County scored two of the next six points, to extend their led to 7 to 4. The Lady Falcons tied the set at seven scoring the next three points. Over the next 24 points, both teams swapped points back and forth. Lady Pioneer Liz Hunt served back-to-back points to give Gibson County a 24 to 20 lead. Brylea Young served the winning point to win the set 25 to 20 to even the match 1-1.

The third set started out with both teams swapping points, but The Lady Pioneers scored five straight points to take a 14 to 9 lead. Lady Pioneer Maddie Neal served nine straight points with an ace to win the set 25 to 10 to give Gibson County a 2 to 1 match lead.

In the fourth set the Lady Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Lady Falcons scored nine of the next 14 points to increase their lead to seven, 12 to 5. The Lady Pioneers came right back scoring seven straight points to tie the game at 17 with Ashley O’Daniel serving 10 straight time to give Gibson County a 22 to 17 lead. GC Caitlyn Mayberry served the last two points with an ace to win the set 25 to 18. Gibson County won the match 3 games to 1 over Lake County.

On Monday, August 14, the Lady Pioneers traveled to Union City. The Lady Pioneers Junior Varsity team won their match two sets to one but the Lady Pioneers lost in three sets to Union City. Maddie Neal led the team with two kills, two aces and 13 serves, while Ashley O’Daniel had three digs and eight serves. Caitlyn Mayberry and Liz Hunt each had two digs and Molly Lamar added two aces.

The Lady Pioneers will face Union City on Thursday, Sept. 7, with junior varsity at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. at Gibson County High School.
