Top 12 Weakley County high school teams for 2025-26 season

The Westview football teams lifts the Class 3A state championship trophy after beating Gatlinburg-Pittman in the Class 3A state championship game in Chattanooga.
In the last couple of weeks, we have looked at the most memorable games and the top coaching jobs from the 2025-26 high school season involving Weakley County area teams.
Now, we will look at the top 15 teams that came from this county throughout the school year:
1. Westview football – The Chargers left little doubt on who was the best team in Class 3A this season. Westview won the program’s second-ever state championship with a 62-21 victory over Gatlinburg-Pittman. Multiple state championship game records were broken in the game. The Chargers finished the season with a 14-0 record and were the Region 7-3A champions, outscoring their opponents 737-191 in the14 games.
2. Westview girls soccer – The Lady Chargers became the first public school in West Tennessee to bring home a state championship as they beat Merrol Hyde 2-0 to win the Class A state title. The Lady Chargers went 17-3-1 on the season and did not give up a goal in the postseason. Westview won its first five postseason matches 9-0 before winning 7-0 in the state semifinals
3. Westview boys basketball – The Chargers finished as the Class 2A runner-up, falling to Chattanooga Prep in the state championship game. Wins over Gatlinburg-Pittman and Smith County gave Westview its first wins in the basketball state tournament. The Chargers finished the season with a 24-8 record. The team started the season 2-5 as the football players didn’t rejoin the team until close to Christmas.
4. Westview baseball – The Chargers finished in the Class 2A semifinals, making it one step further than last season when they finished in the top six. Behind some strong pitching performances, the Chargers won the District 14-2A and Region 7-2A championships. Westview eliminated tournament-favorite Cascade on the way to the top-four finish and a 26-14 record.
5. Greenfield girls basketball – The Lady Yellowjackets reached the Class 1A state semifinals before losing in overtime to eventual champion Richland. Greenfield was dominant in West Tennessee and won 19 straight games to reach the state semifinals, winning the District 14-1A and Region 7-1A championships along the way. Greenfield went 30-3 on the season.
6. Dresden football – The Lions won the Region 7-1A championship and reached the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs. Dresden won nine straight games after starting the season 0-2 to reach the second round of the playoffs before losing to Fayetteville. The Lions finished with a 9-3 record.
7. Westview girls basketball – The Lady Chargers made a 14th straight appearance in the Class 2A state tournament. After beating Gibson County for the District 14-2A title, the Lady Chargers lost in the rematch in the Region 7-2A championship. But 15 3-pointers in the Class 2A sectional helped the team beat Memphis Business. Westview went 24-6 on the season.
8. Greenfield baseball – The Yellowjackets reached the Class 1A state tournament for the first time in program history. Greenfield won its second-ever Region 7-1A championship along the way. Greenfield went 25-8 on the season, winning the District 14-1A and Region 7-1A championships.
9. Dresden baseball – The Lions finished in the top four of the Class 1A state tournament. Dresden finished the regular season as the No. 3 seed going into the District 14-1A tournament after a rollercoaster season. But the Lions finished as the tournament runner-up and finished as the Region 7-1A runner-up before going on the road to beat Middle College to advance to the Class 1A state tournament and finish with a 19-15 record.
10. Dresden softball – For the second consecutive season, the Lady Lions were in the Class 1A state tournament. Dresden was runner-up in District 14-1A to South Fulton and Region 7-1A to Bradford. But the Lady Lions dominated Middle College in a Class 1A sectional to return to the state tournament.
11. Westview boys soccer – The Chargers won the District 12-A championship and held a 2-0 lead in the Region 6-1A semifinals before losing to Hickman County. Westview went 10-6-1 and won seven straight matches late in the season.
12. Gleason boys basketball – With a senior-laden lineup, the Bulldogs went 22-6 on the season. Gleason finished as the District 14-1A runner-up but reached the Region 7-1A semifinals before losing to Humboldt.
