Without a doubt, the 2025-26 high school sports season in Weakley County had some of the most memorable games across West Tennessee.
Weakley County teams played at the highest level in the state.

So here is a look back at the top 15 most memorable games that involved a Weakley County team:

1. Westview girls soccer wins Class A state championship over Merrol Hyde: No West Tennessee public school had ever won a state championship in girls soccer. But that ended in October when the Lady Chargers beat Merrol Hyde 2-0 to win the Class A crown. Ashlee Brent scored both goals. It was the seventh straight shutout for the Westview defense in the postseason.

2. Westview football wins Class 3A state championship over Gatlinburg-Pittman: Record books were re-written in December as the Chargers won the program’s second state championship with a 62-21 victory over Gatlinburg-Pittman. The Chargers’ offense did as it wanted throughout the game as it accumulated 690 yards of total offense with 566 coming through Graham Simpson’s passing game. Simpson completed 18-of-21 passes for those 566 yards with seven touchdown passes, and he rushed for another touchdown. Simpson broke the record for most passing yards in a game (566), and Westview broke the record for most yards offensively (690) and most points in a half with 55 among other records.

3. Greenfield girls basketball beats Van Buren County in Class 1A quarterfinals on Rayanna Fisher 3-pointer: With 16 seconds remaining on the clock, Fisher hit the shot of the season as she drained a 3-pointer from the top of the arc for the 41-40 win. Greenfield’s defense didn’t give up a shot in the final 15 seconds to secure the win. The 3-pointer gave Greenfield its first lead since 17-16. Fisher finished with seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Ella Porter led Greenfield’s offense with 18 points to go with three rebounds, three rebounds and three steals. Skylar Arnold had a double-double with 11 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks.

4. Greenfield baseball beats Dresden on a balk in Region 7-1A title game: Two Weakley County teams put on a pitching display in the Region 7-1A championship game. Greenfield’s Will Edwards and Dresden’s Landon Carter were dialed in. After seven innings, Edwards had a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk, while Carter went six innings with 14 strikeouts and two walks. But in the fifth inning, a balk was called on the Dresden first baseman on the placement of his feet, which scored the only run of the game.

5. Westview baseball rallies to beat Adamsville in the Region 7-2A championship game: With one out and bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Westview baseball team trailed Adamsville by three runs. A Graham Simpson two-RBI double cut the deficit to one run. Poston Essary followed with an RBI single to tie the game and Simpson scored on the throw as the Chargers walked it off with a 6-5 win over Adamsville in the Region 7-2A championship game. Casen Spaulding picked up a second win of the season as he pitched a one-hit inning with no walks and no strikeouts. Essary went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Westview girls basketball beats Gibson County in District 14-2A title game: With the clock nearing zero, Westview’s Josey Clark drove into the lane and passed the ball out to the 3-point line to teammate Annelise Hayden. Hayden spotted up for a 3-pointer – her only points of the night – with 1.2 seconds remaining to send the Lady Chargers to a 38-36 victory over Gibson County in the District 14-2A championship game. Ashlee Brent finished with 13 points, while Lila Trevathan added eight points.

7. Westview boys basketball beats Smith County in the Class 2A semifinals: Going into the 2026 Class 2A state tournament, the Chargers were 0-1 all-time in the state tournament. After beating Gatlinburg-Pittman in the quarterfinals, Westview advanced to the title game for the first time with a 47-37 victory over Smith County in the semifinals. The Chargers trailed by four points at halftime after only scoring 16 points in the first 16 minutes, but a 15-point third quarter and a 16-point fourth quarter sent Westview to the win. The Owls shot 50 percent from the field (10-of-20) in the first half, but Westview’s defense held them to 7-of-22 shooting in the second half. Miles Brown led Westview with 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double to go with two assists and two steals. Arden Smith also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with seven blocks and one steal.

8. Dresden baseball advances to Class 1A semifinals with win over University High: After losing to University High 7-0 on Tuesday, the Lions came back the following day and picked up an 8-7 victory in a game that lasted until 12:30 a.m. due to rain earlier in the day. Rylan Davis picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and eight walks over four innings. University High had a 4-0 lead after three innings. But Dresden turned the game around in the fourth inning as Cooper Allman hit an RBI single, Landon Carter hit a sacrifice fly and Daylan Davis hit a two-RBI double to tie the game 4-4. In the top of the fifth, Warren Crawford scored on a bases-loaded walk and Wyatt Craig and Parker Scott scored on an error as the Lions took a 7-4 lead.

9. Westview baseball beats Sweetwater in Class 2A state tournament: After losing the state tournament opener to Cascade, the Chargers started a three-game winning streak with a 10-8 victory over Sweetwater. Going into the seventh inning, Westview trailed 8-5. But Westview had a big inning planned in the top of the seventh. Poston Essary hit a two-RBI double, Thomas Myers hit an RBI single and Easton Wyatt hit a two-RBI single for the 10-8 lead. Casen Spaulding picked up the win as he pitched three innings in relief, allowing no earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

10. Dresden baseball beats Sale Creek in Class 1A state tournament: Before beating University High later in the day, the Lions started losers’ bracket play with a 5-4 win over Sale Creek. Sale Creek led 4-2 going into the fifth inning. Landon Carter scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, Warren Crawford scored on a passed ball and Luke DiPietro scored on an error to give Dresden the 5-4 lead. Daylan Davis picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts and one walk.

11. Westview girls basketball beat Memphis Business in Class 2A sectionals: With a 14th straight appearance in the Class 2A state tournament on the line, the Lady Chargers hit 15 3-pointers to knock off Memphis Business 60-36. Josey Clark led Westview with 18 points, while Lila Trevathan added 17 points and Brent finished with 12 points. The Lady Chargers hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to take a 27-15 lead at halftime. Trevathan hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter.

12. Westview football beat Covington in Class 3A semifinals: After beating Covington by 22 in Week 11, Westview had its hands full in the state semifinals. With 29 seconds remaining, senior Donteze Joy scored from four yards out to send Westview to its second straight Class 3A state championship game with a 40-34 win over Covington. Covington rushed the ball for 508 yards on 77 carries to take time off the clock. Graham Simpson completed 9-of-14 passes for 160 yards with three touchdowns and one interception, while Miles Brown had four catches for 121 yards and one touchdown.

13. Greenfield football beat Humboldt in Week 7: The Yellowjackets found a way to keep scoring in a shootout with the Vikings and earn the 50-48 victory for a fourth win of the season. With 26 seconds left, Easton Sullivan scored from 13 yards out to give Greenfield the 50-48 win. On the next play, Kolton Akers intercepted a Humboldt pass to secure the victory. Humboldt drove 61 yards and scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass to take the lead 48-44 with two minutes to play before the Yellowjackets answered with the game-winner. Sullivan finished with 28 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns to go with 7-for-14 passing for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

14. Westview football beats Lausanne in Week 6 action: It took until Week 6 for the Chargers to be tested during the 2025 season. But Westview pulled out a 37-34 victory. Sophomore quarterback Graham Simpson had his best game of the season as he completed 30-of-38 passes for 498 yards and two touchdowns. He accounted for 515 yards of total offense. Miles Brown had 11 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns to go with the rushing touchdown. Brown caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Simpson with 4:06 to play for the 37-27 lead.

15. Greenfield baseball beats Bradford in Region 7-1A semifinals: The Yellowjackets won the Region 7-1A championship, but they had to battle to get into the championship game. Bradford scored in the first inning for the 1-0 lead, but Trey Morris hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game 1-1. With two outs and one runner on in the eighth inning, Easton Sullivan and Will Edwards were intentionally walked to load the bases. Anderson Hayes hit an RBI single to score Baker Biggs for the walk-off victory. Sullivan pitched seven no-hit innings with 14 strikeouts and six walks before Edwards came in and pitched a perfect eighth inning with three strikeouts.
