Top 12 Weakley County high school coaching jobs for 2025-26 season

Last week, we looked at the top 15 most memorable high school games from the 2025-26 season in Weakley County. This week, we will look at the top 15 coaching jobs in Weakley County.

This is a look at the coaches that reached new heights, or maybe they got the most out of their platers.

1. Brandy Spendlove, Westview girls soccer: Spendlove led the Lady Chargers to the program’s first Class A state championship. In doing so, Westview became the first West Tennessee public school to win a state championship. The Lady Chargers went 17-3-1 on the season and did not give up a goal in the postseason. Westview won its first five postseason matches 9-0 before winning 7-0 in the state semifinals and beating Merrol Hyde 2-0 in the state championship match.

2. Willie Trevathan, Westview boys basketball: Trevathan led the Chargers to the program’s second-ever trip to the Class 2A state tournament. Westview didn’t just make the tournament this year though, the team beat Gatlinburg-Pittman and Smith County to reach the state championship game. The Chargers finished the season with a 24-8 record. The team started the season 2-5 as the football players didn’t rejoin the team until close to Christmas.

3. Matt McConnell, Westview football: The Chargers finished off the undefeated season with a 14-0 record and won the program’s second-ever Class 3A state championship. Behind the play of Tennessee Titans Class 3A Mr. Football winner Graham Simpson, Westview scored 737 points during the season. Multiple state championship game records were broken as the Chargers beat Gatlinburg-Pittman 62-21 in the state championship game.

4. Nick Chappell, Dresden baseball: Chappell led the Lions to a top four finish in the Class 1A state tournament in his first year in charge. Dresden finished the regular season as the No. 3 seed going into the District 14-1A tournament after a rollercoaster season. But the Lions finished as the tournament runner-up and finished as the Region 7-1A runner-up before going on the road to beat Middle College to advance to the Class 1A state tournament and finish with a 19-15 record.

5. Scott Guymon, Westview baseball: Guymon took the Chargers on step further than last season and helped the team finish in the top four of the Class 2A state tournament. Westview was in the top six last season. Behind some strong pitching performances, the Chargers won the District 14-2A and Region 7-2A championships. Westview eliminated tournament-favorite Cascade on the way to the top-four finish and a 26-14 record.

6. Brian Haskins, Westview girls basketball: Haskins led the Lady Chargers to a 14th straight appearance in the Class 2A state tournament after graduating a strong senior class after winning the 2025 Class 2A state title. After beating Gibson County for the District 14-2A title, the Lady Chargers lost in the rematch in the Region 7-2A championship. But 15 3-pointers in the Class 2A sectional helped the team beat Memphis Business. Westview went 24-6 on the season.

7. Tori Liggett, Greenfield girls basketball: Liggett helped lead the Lady Yellowjackets to a Class 1A semifinal finish as the team was put on a tough side of the bracket with eventual champion Richland and 2025 state runner-up Van Buren County. Greenfield was dominant in West Tennessee and won 19 straight games to reach the state semifinals, winning the District 14-1A and Region 7-1A championships along the way. Greenfield went 30-3 on the season.

8. Johnnie Growe, Greenfield baseball: Growe led the Yellowjackets to their first-ever appearance in the Class 1A state tournament. Greenfield won its second-ever Region 7-1A championship along the way. During the season, Growe picked up his 100th win with the Yellowjackets and has 774 wins in his coaching career. Greenfield went 25-8 on the season behind the play of Class 1A Mr. Baseball winner Easton Sullivan.

9. Justin Cruse, Dresden softball: Cruse helped lead the Lady Lions back to the Class 1A state tournament for the second straight season in his first year in charge. Dresden was runner-up in District 14-1A to South Fulton and Region 7-1A to Bradford. But the Lady Lions dominated Middle College in a Class 1A sectional to return to the state tournament. The big win came in the Region 7-1A semifinals when the Lady Lions beat Halls on the road. Dresden finished with a 12-15 record.

10. Justin Cruse, Dresden football: Cruse led the Lions to the Region 7-1A championship and a spot in the Class 1A second round. Dresden won nine straight games after starting the season 0-2 to reach the second round of the playoffs before losing to Fayetteville. The Lions finished with a 9-3 record.

11. Don Pitt, Greenfield football: After starting the season 1-3, Pitt led the Yellowjackets to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs before losing to McKenzie. Greenfield finished third in Region 7-1A and went on the road to pick up a win over Oakhaven in the opening round. It was Greenfield’s first trip to the second round since 2020. The Yellowjackets finished with a 7-5 record.

12. Mike Riggs, Gleason boys basketball: Riggs helped lead the Bulldogs to the Region 7-1A semifinals for the second time in three seasons. Behind a strong group of seniors, Gleason had one of its best seasons in the history of the program. The Bulldogs went 22-6 and was the No. 1 seed in the District 14-1A tournament before finishing as the tournament runner-up.
