Catie Embrey resigns as South Gibson girls basketball coach

Catie Embrey had coached the South Gibson girls basketball team for five seasons with a 126-49 record.

After five seasons in charge of the South Gibson girls basketball team, Catie Embrey has decided to resign to take a job at Moore County.

“We are incredibly grateful for all that Coach Embrey, and her husband Preston, have done for the girls’ basketball program at SGCHS,” South Gibson athletic director Mark Dunn said via press release. “She has had a tremendous impact on the lives of all the young ladies who have been a part of the program over the last 5 years. We wish her and her family well as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”

Embrey led the Lady Hornets to three straight Class 3A semifinal appearances before losing in the 3A sectionals this past season to Covington.

During her five years at South Gibson, the program has a 126-49, which is a .720 winning percentage.

This past season, South Gibson went 28-6, beating the Class 3A state champion Dyersburg three times – by 14 points, 16 points and 17 points.

Prior to coming to South Gibson, Embrey spent three years at Summertown with a state runner-up finish in 2021 along with stints at Columbia Academy and Dickson County.

Through her career, she has a 279-113 record (.712 winning percentage).

Embrey told Moore County schools, “My family and I are so excited about this more. We can’t wait to be part of a community that supports their schools and appreciated the value that athletics provide. I’m so ready to build relationships with these young ladies and get started adding to the tradition of Raiderette basketball.”

Embrey helped lead Lawrence County to the Class AAA state championship game in 2002 before playing college basketball at Lipscomb University.
