Reinhausen Manufacturing announces major expansion
German-based manufacturer Reinhausen Inc. will expand its production facility in Humboldt, bringing 90 new jobs and a $6.7 million investment to Gibson County, according to a joint announcement Tuesday from Tennessee officials and company leaders.
The expansion is intended to help meet growing customer demand for advanced transformer production, voltage regulation and grid-automation technology.
Founded in Germany in 1868, Reinhausen established its first U.S. operations in Alamo in 1987 before later relocating its American headquarters to Humboldt, where it has remained for decades. Today, the company operates on six continents and employs approximately 5,000 people worldwide.
Gov. Bill Lee praised the investment and its impact on rural Tennessee communities.
“What happens in rural Tennessee matters to all Tennesseans, and we are proud to take part in announcing this significant investment in our state,” Lee said in the release. “This expansion will create greater opportunity for families across Gibson County, and I thank Reinhausen for its continued commitment to West Tennessee.”
Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter said West Tennessee continues to establish itself as a leader in energy infrastructure manufacturing.
“With companies like Hitachi, Hyosung HICO and Reinhausen, we are helping shape America’s energy future,” McWhorter said. “Reinhausen has been part of this state for decades, and their connection and continued investment is driving lasting growth.”
Reinhausen Inc. CEO Bob Vary said the company’s newest investment reflects its long-term commitment to both Humboldt and the nation’s power grid infrastructure.
“Tennessee has been the heart of Reinhausen’s U.S. operations since 1987, and Humboldt has been our home for nearly that entire time,” Vary said. “This new investment is about the future — strengthening America’s grid, supporting our customers’ growth and reinforcing Reinhausen’s position as a global leader in voltage regulation and grid technology, all from right here in West Tennessee.”
Local officials also welcomed the announcement.
Gibson County Mayor Nelson Cunningham said the company’s continued investment demonstrates confidence in the local workforce and business environment. Humboldt Mayor Arthur Boykin said Reinhausen has made major contributions to the local economy and the city’s economic vitality through its presence in the community.
State Sen. John Stevens and state Rep. Chris Hurt also praised the expansion, noting the expected economic impact and new employment opportunities for local families.
According to the release, Germany remains one of Tennessee’s top foreign investment partners, with more than 115 German companies operating in the state and accounting for nearly 23,000 jobs and $7 billion in capital investment.
