Milan Middle School Principal Chris Jones Announces Departure

It was announced on Monday, January 9, that Milan Middle School Principal Chris Jones has accepted a position in a different school system. Jones communicated his departure via email to the staff on Monday morning.
He will be joining Lauderdale County Schools as the new Director of Secondary & Career Technical Education after serving 11 years as the principal of Milan Middle School. Jones will remain at Milan Middle until the principal position has been filled.
In a public statement to the Mirror-Exchange, Jones expressed his gratitude for his time at the school:
“Serving this school community has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Jones said. “Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary educators, dedicated staff, supportive families, and, most importantly, remarkable students. Together, we have navigated change, celebrated achievements, and faced challenges with resilience and a shared commitment to excellence.”
He continued, “I am deeply proud of what we have built together. The growth of our students, the strength of our programs, and the culture of care and high expectations that define this school are a testament to the collective efforts of this community. I am especially grateful to the staff whose professionalism, passion, and unwavering dedication have inspired me every day. Thank you for the trust, support, and kindness you have shown me throughout these years. I will always carry immense pride in having been part of this community and in the memories we have created together.”
Director of Schools Dr. Versie Hamlett has posted the position for hire and is committed to finding the right candidate. Dr. Hamlett is holding a meeting with Milan Middle School staff to gather their expectations and desires for the next principal. While there is hope to fill the position swiftly, the focus remains on finding the right fit for both students and staff.
