Fayette-Ware boys, Dyersburg girls open West Tennessee Basketball Rankings at No. 1

The 2025-25 high school basketball season is here.

Monday kicked off a week of Hall of Champions games, but these games count as wins and losses on teams’ records, so the season has started.

Last season saw West Tennessee have plenty of success with Greenfield (Class 1A) and Westview (Class 2A) win state championships,

Dyersburg and South Gibson (Class 3A) along with University School of Jackson (Division II-A) reached the semifinals of their respective classes on the girls’ side.

On the boys’ side, Humboldt made the Class 1A semifinals, Jackson Central-Merry got back to the state tournament in Class 2A, South Side was a Class 3A quarterfinalist and Fayette-Ware reached the Class 3A semifinals.

But it is time for a new season, so here are the top 15 teams going into the season:

BOYS

1. Fayette-Ware (28-6) – The Wildcats reached the Class 3A semifinals before losing to Tullahoma.

2. South Side (24-3) – The Hawks reached the Class 3A quarterfinals before losing to Tullahoma.

3. Westview (19-10) – The Chargers reached the Region 7-2A semifinals before losing to Jackson Central-Merry.

4. Humboldt (29-6) – The Vikings reached the Class 1A state semifinals before losing to Chattanooga Prep.

5. North Side (26-5) – The Indians reached the Region 6-3A semifinals before losing to South Side.

6. JCM (21-10) – The Cougars reach the Class 2A quarterfinals before losing to Jackson County.

7. Henry County (23-6) – The Patriots reached the Region 7-4A semifinals before losing to Dickson County.

8. Peabody (24-8) – The Golden Tide reached the Class 2A sectionals before losing to Memphis Business.

9. Dyersburg (16-14) – The Trojans reached the Class 3A sectionals before losing to Munford.

10. Lexington (18-16) – The Tigers reached the Class 3A sectionals before losing to Hume-Fogg.

11. Munford (19-10) – The Cougars reached the Class 3A quarterfinals before losing to Greeneville.

12. Union City (18-13) – The Golden Tornadoes reached the Region 7-1A semifinals before losing to Middleton, but Union City is now in Class 2A.

13. Obion County (18-11) – The Rebels reached the Region 7-3A semifinals before losing to Fayette-Ware.

14. Haywood (16-14) – The Tomcats reached the Region 7-3A semifinals before losing to Dyersburg.

15. Covington (16-12) – The Chargers reached the Region 8-3A semifinals before losing to Kirby.

On the bubble: Gleason (18-12); Haywood (16-14); Huntingdon (19-12); Middleton (16-12).

GIRLS

1. Dyersburg (28-5) – The Lady Trojans reached the Class 3A semifinals before losing to Northview Academy.

2. USJ (26-4) – The Lady Bruins reached the Division II-A state semifinals before losing to Webb School of Bell Buckle in overtime.

3. South Side (28-3) – The Lady Hawks reached the Class 3A quarterfinals before losing to Northview Academy.

4. South Gibson (28-9) – The Lady Hornets reached the Class 3A semifinals before losing to Heritage.

5. Union City (23-10) – The Lady Tornadoes reached the Region 7-1A semifinals before losing to Greenfield, but Union City is now in Class 2A.

6. Westview (33-1) – The Lady Chargers won the Class 2A state championship over York Institute.

7. Greenfield (30-6) – The Lady Yellowjackets won the Class 1A state championship over Van Buren County.

8. Huntingdon (23-8) – The Fillies reached the Region 6-2A semifinals before losing to Cheatham County.

9. Jackson Christian (21-12) – The Lady Eagles reached the Division II-A State XII before losing to Franklin Road Academy.

10. Gibson County (23-11) – The Lady Pioneers reached the Class 2A sectionals before losing to Memphis Business.

11. TCA (19-9) – The Lady Lions lost to Northpoint Christian in the Division II-A West Region quarterfinals.

12. Lexington (20-9) – The Lady Tigers reached the Region 6-3A semifinals before losing to Creek Wood.

13. McNairy Central (21-10) – The Lady Bobcats reached the Region 6-3A semifinals before losing to South Side.

14. Middleton (22-5) – The Lady Tigers reached the Region 7-1A semifinals before losing to Dresden.

15. Dresden (22-10) – The Lady Lions reached the Class 1A sectionals before losing to Middle College.

On the bubble: Adamsville (18-12); Crockett County (22-8).
