Lexington joins West Tennessee High School Football Rankings after Round 1

Only half of the teams that were alive last week at this time are still alive now. The first round of the playoffs brought some quality games and a few upsets.

Lexington went on the road and beat Haywood in Brownsville, and the Tigers re-enter the rankings this week.

This coming Friday will be another set of playoff games, and only half of the teams will survive to reach the quarterfinals.

So here are the top 15 teams in West Tennessee heading into Round 2 of playoff action:

1. Westview (10-0) – The Chargers beat Hamilton 68-0 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Westmoreland. Last week: No. 1.

2. Milan (10-0) – The Bulldogs beat Memphis Academy of Science & Engineering 37-0 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Mt. Pleasant. Last week: No. 2.

3. Huntingdon (10-1) – The Mustangs beat Memphis Business Academy 22-12 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Next week: At Lewis County. Last week: No. 3.

4. McKenzie (10-1) – The Rebels beat Huntland 42-13 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Greenfield. Last week: No. 4.

5. Munford (10-1) – The Cougars beat Kenwood 60-14 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. Next week: At beech. Last week: No. 5.

6. Covington (10-1) – The Chargers beat Wooddale 63-0 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Sycamore. Last week: No. 6.

7. South Gibson (8-3) – The Hornets beat Millington 49-7 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Spring Hill. Last week: No. 7.

8. USJ (9-1) – The Bruins had a bye in the first round of the Division II-A playoffs. Next week: Hoome vs. DCA. Last week: No. 9.

9. Crockett County (9-2) – The Cavaliers beat Kirby 28-26 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Next week: At Pearl Cohn Last week: No. 10.

10. Peabody (9-2) – The Golden Tide beat Mitchell 24-12 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Next week: At East Robertson. Last week: No. 11.

11. TCA (9-2) – The Lions beat Franklin Christian 55-7 in the Division II-A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. MTCS. Last week: No. 12.

12. Dyer County (9-2) – The Choctaws beat Lakeland Prep 52-14 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Next week: At Marshall County. Last week: No. 13.

13. Dresden (9-2) – The Lions beat Middleton 48-12 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Next week: Home vs. Fayetteville. Last week: No. 14.

14. Jackson Christian (9-2) – The Eagles beat Concord Christian 27-13 in the first round of the Division II-A playoffs. Next week: At Nashville Christian. Last week: No. 14.

15. Lexington (8-3) – The Tigers beat Haywood 25-22 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Next week: At Springfield. Last week: Not ranked.
