“The excitement is here,” I yelled walking in the office Monday morning.

“Calm it down, Michael.” Victor Parkins replied, working to get this week’s section ready for print.

“We are in Week 11 – one more game before the playoffs – and South Gibson has clinched the Region 7-4A championship and Milan can do the same this week,” I replied.

“I agree with you, playoffs are almost here, but Milan better come to play or Peabody can cause chaos in Region 7-2A,” Parkins remarked back.

“I agree, but just think how packed it is going to be at Johnnie Hale Stadium on Friday, and I will be at Hardy Graham Stadium as Westview hosts Covington,” I said. “But you know what is even better?”

“What?” asked Parkins.

“I was down two games to you before Week 10, and now I am ahead,” I laughed.

“Here we go…” Parkins said turning back around to work on the section.

I went 11-4 with my picks last week, while Parkins went 8-7. We both missed two Gibson County area games as we both missed Liberty’s win over West Carroll, while I missed Huntingdon’s win over Peabody and Parkins missed Humboldt’s win over Gleason.

I am now 38-8 (.826 winning percentage) in picking Gibson County games, while Parkins is 37-9 (.804).

Outside of the county, Parkins and I missed Jackson Central-Merry’s win over Union City and Harding Academy’s win over Fayette Academy. Parkins also missed Dyer County’s win over South Side, Dresden’s win over South Fulton and Greenfield’s win over Lake County.

After 10 weeks of the season, I am 112-35 (.762) with my picks, while Parkins is 110-37 (.748).

Here is hoping to keeping the lead in Week 11:

Peabody (8-1, 4-1 7-2A) at Milan (8-0, 5-0)

The Bulldogs have to win to be the No. 1 seed from Region 7-2A. A Peabody win, and the Golden Tide will be at home in the first round of the playoffs and Milan will be the No. 3 seed.

South Gibson (6-3, 5-1 7-4A) at Hardin County (2-7, 0-6)

The Hornets have secured the Region 7-4A championship, but now they want to be ready for a postseason run. This is a long road trip against a team that is yet to win a region game.

Lakeland Prep (4-5) at Humboldt (4-5)

This is possibly one of the highest scoring games of the night. Lakeland Prep’s passing game is one of the best in Memphis, but Humboldt’s KD Taylor has put up some numbers also.

Gibson County (0-9) at Stewart County (1-8)

This is the Pioneers’ last chance to get a win in the 2025 season. Gibson County should be competitive with Stewart County’s only win coming against Innovation Academy.
