Top 15 high school athletic performances from Weakley County from 2024-25 school year

Throughout the month of June, we have looked back at the most memorable games, top teams and top coaching jobs across Weakley County.

In our final look back at the 2024-25 school year, we will look at the top 15 athletic performances in a season.

1. Graham Simpson (Westview football, Fr.) – Simpson helped lead the Chargers to the Class 3A state championship game with 14 wins and was a Class 3A Mr. Football finalist as he completed 239-of-315 passes for 4,135 yards and 57 touchdowns with only one interception. He also rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

2. Jack Mantooth (Westview boys track, Jr.) – Mantooth won two state championships at the Class A state meet in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. In the 1600-meter run, Mantooth finished with a time of 4:31.68, which was 1.38 seconds ahead of Union City’s Woodrow McKinnis. In the 3200-meter run, Mantooth won with a time of 9:38.04, which was 17 seconds ahead of Huntingdon’s Blaine Todd.

3. Maddie Gray (Westview girls golf, Sr.) – Gray finished as the Class A state runner-up, losing on a playoff hole. Through four rounds of postseason play, Gray averaged a 73.75. In the postseason, Gray shot a 75 in the District 14-A tournament to finish runner-up and a 72 in the Region 7-A tournament to win the championship. During the state tournament, Gray shot a 148 (72-76) to finish in a tie for first place.

4. Maddie Gray (Westview girls basketball, Sr.) – Gray helped lead the Lady Chargers to the Class 2A state championship and was a Class 2A Miss Basketball finalist as she averaged 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.8 steals, while shooting 46.4 percent from the field.

5. Asa Barnes (Westview football, So.) – Barnes helped lead the Chargers to a 14-win season and a spot in the Class 3A title game as he rushed for 812 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also recording 215 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had 55 total tackles with 26 solo, five tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception.

6. McCall Sims (Westview softball, Sr.) – Sims, a Tennessee signee, helped lead the Lady Chargers to a top-six finish in the Class 2A state tournament as she went 14-3 witn 204 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA. She also batted .508 with 32 hits, seven home runs, 10 doubles, 17 RBI and 33 runs.

7. Rayanna Fisher (Greenfield girls basketball, So.) – Fisher helped lead the Lady Yellowjackets to the Class 1A state championship and was named the state tournament MVP as she averaged 16 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.2 steals, while shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range.

8. Cooper Spaulding (Westview baseball, Sr.) – Spaulding helped lead the Chargers to a top-six finish in the Class 2A state tournament as he batted . 517 with 60 total hits, including 18 doubles, 38 RBI and 43 stolen bases.

9. Easton Sullivan (Greenfield baseball, Jr.) – Sullivan, a Delta State commitment, helped the Yellowjackets to a 19-6 record and the No. 1 seed going into the District 14-1A tournament. He was 8-0 on the mound with 50 innings pitched, striking out 99 batters and finishing with a 0.28 ERA. Defensively, he had a .955 fielding percentage. Offensively, he batted .500 with 34 hits, 23 RBI, two triples, nine doubles and three home runs.

10. Maddie Horton (Westview girls soccer, Jr.) – Horton helped the Lady Chargers to the Class A state championship match as she scored 30 goals.

11. Bailey Collie (Dresden girls cross country, Fresh.) – Collie was part of two third-place finishes at the Class A state meet. Collie finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.87, which was 11.33 seconds behind Liberty Creek’s Chaiti Ainapure. Collie also ran the fourth leg of the 4×800-meter relay team along with Ellie Poole, Lily Pash and Brenley Little with a time of 10:24.48

12. Miles Brown (Westview football, So.) – Brown helped the Chargers to a 14-win season and a spot in the Class 3A title game as he had 974 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns on 53 receptions. He also recorded 39 total tackles with 16 solo, three interceptions – including two that were returned for touchdowns – and four pass breakups.

13. Drake Lehmkuhl (Gleason boys basketball, Jr.) – Lehmkuhl helped lead the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in District 14-1A as he averaged 21.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals.

14. Donteze Joy (Westview football, So.) – Joy helped lead the Chargers to a 14-win season and a spot in the Class 3A title game with 1,015 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns on 64 receptions to go with four rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown.

15. Lakyn Rogers (Westview softball, Sr.) – Rogers helped the Lady Chargers to a top-six finish in the Class 2A state tournament as she batted .529 with 55 hits, three home runs, three triples, nine doubles, 25 RBI 31 runs and 21 stolen bases.
