Vic vs. Odom: High School Football Pick’em Week 10

“Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game…”

“Why are you listening to a post-game press conference by Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Mora from 23 years ago,” Victor Parkins asked early on Monday morning.

“Because it’s time to talk about the playoffs,” I replied.

“Playoffs are two weeks away,” Parkins said with a chuckle.

“No, I believe that the playoffs start now, especially in Region 6-2A,” I said. “Four teams at 4-1 and a fifth at 3-2. Lose Friday night, and a road playoff game might be the highest reward with a Week 11 win. The same could be said about Region 6-4A with North Side and South Gibson playing, lose and a road trip in Round 1 is probably on the docket.”

“Agreed, but guess what? I still lead you by five games in the pick’em contest,” Parkins laughed.

“Bosses….”

But Parkins and myself had the same pics this week, and we went 13-2 with us both missing Peabody’s win over Jackson Central-Merry and Covington’s win over Haywood.

So overall, Parkins is 108-23 (.824 winning percentage), while I am now 103-28 (.786), as Parkins stayed five games ahead.

Here go the playoffs to set up the playoffs in Week 10:

Peabody (4-4, 4-1 6-2A) at Milan (7-1, 4-1)

These two along with Huntingdon and Riverside are tied for first in the Region 6-2A standings. So the winner will stay in the running to earn a home playoff game, while the loser isn’t out, they will need help and a solid win in Week 11 to earn a home game in the playoffs.

Odom’s Pick: Milan 28, Peabody 27

Vic’s Pick: Milan 21, Peabody 17

North Side (5-3, 3-0 6-4A) at South Gibson (4-4, 2-1)

For a shot at a home game in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs, a Hornet win is necessary right here. North Side might be the top team in the region, so South Gibson will need to play its best defensive game of the season.

Odom’s Pick: North Side 21, South Gibson 17

Vic’s Pick: North Side 28, South Gibson 24

Humboldt (3-5, 1-4 7-1A) at Union City (6-2, 5-0)

The Golden Tornadoes have been the best in Region 7-1A, and this is another chance for them to prove that. The Vikings are better than a year ago, but this competition is stiff.

Odom’s Pick: Union City 42, Humboldt 12

Vic’s Pick: Union City 49, Humboldt 16

Gibson County (1-7, 0-5 6-2A) at Adamsville (3-5, 0-5)

These are the two teams at the bottom of the Region 6-2A standings, so a win either way would be a big boost going into the 2025 season as neither can make the playoffs.

Odom’s Pick: Adamsville 33, Gibson County 13

Vic’s Pick: Adamsville 40, Gibson County 7

West Carroll (4-4) at KIPP Academy (1-6) (Thurs.)

KIPP Academy has suffered five straight losses since opening the season with a win over Innovation Academy. This is a great chance for the War Eagles to get back above .500 before playing McKenzie.
