Well, Week 1 of the high school football season didn’t go my way. In the 15 games that I picked last week, I got 10 of them right.

On the bright side, I was correct in picking Westview, Gleason and Greenfield to pick up wins.

I missed University School of Jackson beating Peabody, Dyer County beating Dyersburg, Lake County beating Obion County, Crockett County’s win over North Side and Chester County’s win over Trinity Christian Academy.

So I am 10-5 (.667 winning percentage) on the season.

Here is hoping for a better week in Week 2:

Stewart County (0-1) at Greenfield (1-0)

This was the point in the season when the Yellowjackets won three straight games last year. They avenged an opening loss to Perry County last year, so this would be the perfect time to catch momentum again.

Perry County (0-1) at Gleason (1-0)

Perry County committed 13 penalties at home last week when Greenfield got the best of them, and the Vikings struggled with speed. Gleason has speed also, and if the Bulldogs can clean up some dumb mistakes, the Bulldogs could go 2-0.

Westview (1-0) at Obion County (0-1)

The Chargers’ offense looked unstoppable last week against Dresden. Now they will play a bigger school, but the Rebels might be in for a long night with freshman Graham Simpson at quarterback.

McKenzie (1-0) at Dresden (0-1)

After playing one of the top offenses in Class 3A last week, the Lions will play one of the favorites to win the Class 1A state championship. Dresden will try to correct some things from the loss to Westview for a better showing.
