Last season, I faced the editor of the newspaper in a pick’em contest, which I won by a few games. Well, he has moved on to different things in his life, and there is no other big high school sports fan in the office willing to try their luck against me.

So I turn to you – our Weakley County readers – you pick the games each week along with me and see if you are a better prognosticator than myself. I will always pick the score of all games involving Weakley County teams and then 11 to 12 of the other top games in West Tennessee to reach a total of 15 games.

So here are the picks for Week 1:

Dresden at Westview (Thursday)

The Lions have been on the winning side of this series for the past two seasons, but Dresden lost 23 seniors. Westview’s offensive weapons are going to cause most teams problems.

Fulton County (Ky.) at Gleason

A matchup of the smallest football school in Tennessee playing the smallest football school in Kentucky. This is the second straight year that this game has been played in Gleason due to a lighting problem last year.

The Yellowjackets are looking for a better start to the season than last year when they lost to Perry County. If the blocking will hold up, Greenfield has the skill positions to compete.
