Gibson County names Timothy Grapes as new softball coach
With the TSSAA dead period over, high school sports are starting to pick up. On Wednesday, Gibson County got its first coaching hire of the 2024-25 school year as it hired Timothy Grapes as the new softball coach.
When asked about the hire, Michael Wickersham, Gibson County’s athletic director said, “It’s always hard to find good coaches, especially this time of year. All the good ones are usually taken, but we got extremely lucky to get a great coach in Timothy Grapes. Coach Grapes will also be assisting during football season for the Pioneers. Coach Grapes was able to fill two important positions for us in our athletic department, and that is an extreme blessing for us. Our softball team has a great group of girls that made it to the regional semifinals this year and will need the leadership and knowledge that Coach Grapes can give them to get them over the top. I believe this group has a great shot of getting back to Murfreesboro in 2025.”
Grapes replaces Jessie Martin.
Grapes comes to Gibson County from Ripley, where he was the softball coach and was an assistant football coach in the fall.
“ I’m excited to build on the foundation and rich tradition of success in girls athletics at Gibson County,” Grapes said via press release. “I can’t wait to meet the team and get to work.”
Gibson County went 15-13 this past spring, finishing runner-up in District 14-2A and reaching the Region 7-2A semifinals.
He is married to Katie Grapes and has three young children, Allison (6), Joshua (5), and Benjamin (2).
Tim graduated from King University with a BS in Business in 2014 and received his MA in education from Bethel in 2017.
