Growing up, people have all enjoyed social activities. It gives a sense of pleasure and serves as a stress reliever that allows a break from things happening in life.

If you are 60 and older, the Humboldt Senior Citizens Center is the place to be. The center, located at 202 N. Central Ave in Humboldt, offers social activities such as pool, dominoes, coloring, computer time, and more. You can get your work out on with Bianca Simmons who is a licensed physical therapist on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m.

“The pandemic has slowed down operations, but we are slowly reintroducing the norm in these unusual times,” said Senior Citizens Center Director Archie Cox. “We are open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.”

“We had our first outing at Grecian Steakhouse last Friday,” Cox continued. “Everyone was happy to enjoy each other’s company.”

Congregants can begin enjoying meals again when the kitchen opens back up. Meals and transportation are scheduled to resume on July 12.

In the meantime, when participating in these events, the center’s policy is for everyone who has not had their COVID vaccination to wear masks and all participants should wash their hands and sanitize accordingly.

Cox and her staff are eager to get back to normal, as are those who visit the center regularly. With the senior center opening back up, normal is exactly what people need. All seniors are invited to visit the Humboldt Senior Citizens Center and enjoy all they offer.
