THIRD IN STATE
The Gibson County High School Marching Pioneers finished third place out of 24 bands at the State Division I Championship held Saturday at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro. Due to heavy rainfall Friday and Saturday, the Riverdale High School directors opted to move the competition indoors and forego finals. The top 10 bands in preliminaries, however, voted 6-4 to have finals indoors. The Marching Pioneers percussion section finished first for the sixth straight year, and four students were offered scholarships from the University of Memphis, Bethel University, Union University, and Austin Peay State University. Paxton Mathina received $2,000 in offers, Alyssa Welch $3,000, Josh Willard $55,100, and Ashlyn Hall $65,000.
