Turner wins school district slogan contest

By Leslie Ferguson

Thursday, Sept 6 at Yorkville School was a very special day for fifth grader Paxton Turner. Turner was the district winner for a slogan contest held for all schools in the Gibson Co. Special School District.

Director of Schools Eddie Pruett formed a Risk Awareness Committee to make school life easier for students. The committee is there to increase support of students and make others aware of any student that may be having a hard time.

“This program helps friends be better friends and to make better decisions,” said Instructional Supervisor Deloris Wilson.

GCSSD wants their students to be themselves and help fellow students that may need a little extra support.

Turner was one of several students to submit a slogan idea. After deliberation by the committee, Turner’s “Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You!” slogan was selected.

Yorkville School surprised her with an all grade assembly and presented her with a gift card to American Eagle. Her dad Jonathan Turner and grandfather Jimmy Zarecor attended the assembly to show their pride.
