Dyer and Kenton festivals kick off this week

Two popular, patriotic festivals kick off this week, and both include Independence Day parades.

Dyer Station Celebration starts Wednesday in Dyer, and the White Squirrel Festival begins Saturday in Kenton.

Dyer Station Celebration opening ceremonies are set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dyer VFW. A community-wide church service follows at 7 at the Presbyterian church. Beginning Thursday at 6 a.m., volunteers will read the Bible 13 hours each day through July 4.

Dyer Station Celebration wraps up July 4 with a full day of activities including the parade at 10 a.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.

The White Squirrel Festival begins with a veterans’ breakfast Saturday at 8 a.m. in the Kenton youth center. A community church service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. in the city gym.

Kenton’s parade will be held July 4 at 11 a.m., and fireworks begin at dusk. The festival continues Friday, July 6 with business open house and the annual auction and Saturday, July 7 with arts and crafts, a car show, and a 3-point basketball contest.
