David Nelson Estes

Funeral services for David Nelson Estes, 63, will be held on Saturday, June 24 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Tenn. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with funeral immediately after. Interment of his ashes will follow at St. Luke’s.
Mr. Estes died on June 15 after a brief bout with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones.
He was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Humboldt on Nov. 3, 1953. He was the oldest child of the late Nelson Estes and Joyce Estes of Humboldt. His family moved to Lexington, Ky. when he was a baby where he attended school and graduated from Tate’s Creek High School in 1971. He loved baseball and played as a pitcher all through school. He later continued playing through men’s slow pitch softball. He played ball for 32 years. He went to Junior College at Jackson State Community College on a baseball scholarship. He went on to graduate from University of Memphis in 1975.
Mr. Estes married Ginny (Martin) on February 15, 1985. They had four children, Katy, Taylor, Evan and Dustin Estes, and seven grandchildren, Kimi and Sheli Bruce, Chloe Belle Estes, Lindsey Estes, Dillon Mooney, and Addi and Graci Robinson.
He worked in finance and insurance before going to work at Proctor and Gamble in Jackson in 1995. He retired from P&G in 2011 and immediately began working at Kellogg’s where he was employed at the time of his death.
Mr. Estes was a member and attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife Ginny; his four children; seven grandchildren; his mother, Joyce Estes; his sister, Ellen Cary (Mark); brothers, Tim (Joni) and Paul; sisters and brothers-in-law; five nieces; one nephew; aunts and uncles; many fishing buddies; work buddies; friends; and four fur babies. He was loved, admired, and respected by many and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humboldt or Gibson County Animal Shelter, or an animal shelter of your choice.
