Odom vs. Jackson: High School Football Pick’em Week 9

“Turn up the heat!” I said walking in the office Monday morning.

“Are you really still that cold after Friday’s lower temperatures?” Gabriel Jackson said. “I thought it felt more like football weather.”

“No, I am talking about my picks last week,” I laughed. “I only missed one game.”

“Ummm, if I remember correctly, I only missed one game also, so the taunting ain’t going to work this week,” Jackson said.

“The weather was great on Friday, and so was the football around the area,” I said. “South Fulton’s last-second win over Obion County, Dyersburg held on to beat Covington…”

But as for our picks, Jackson and I both went 11-1 with our picks.

We both went 2-0 with the two Obion County games, so for Obion County and Weakley County games, I am now 46-4 (.920 winning percentage), while Jackson is now 33-17 (.660).

I missed Dyersburg’s win over Covington last week, while Jackson missed Millington’s win over Fayette-Ware.

Through nine weeks of the season, I hold a nine-game lead as I am 115-13 (.898), while Jackson is 96-32 (.750).

Now that Jackson has tied me, can he beat me in this week’s pick’em:

Dyersburg (5-3, 4-0 7-3A) at Westview (8-0, 4-0)

The Trojans picked up the biggest win of the season last week by beating Covington. Westview had the week off and should come into this game healthy. Dyersburg’s defense has given up points, and Westview knows how to score.

Odom’s Pick: Westview 42, Dyersburg 28

Jackson’s Pick: Westview 36, Dyersburg 18

Dresden (4-4, 3-1 7-1A) at South Fulton (7-1, 3-1)

The winner of this game has the inside track of getting to host a playoff game in the Class 1A playoffs. Dresden had the past week off to try to get healthy with nine different players missing time recently.

Odom’s Pick: Dresden 24, South Fulton 21

Jackson’s Pick: South Fulton 21, Dresden 20

Greenfield (4-4, 1-3 7-1A) at Lake County (4-4, 2-2)

The Yellowjackets must win this one to keep their season alive. A loss here, and next week’s game against Gleason is just for bragging rights. Lake County has lost two straight games by a combined 73 points.

Odom’s Pick: Greenfield 28, Lake County 20

Jackson’s Pick: Greenfield 24, Lake County 14

JCM (5-3, 2-2 7-2A) at Union City (4-4, 3-1)

As of now these two look to be in the playoffs, and these two look to be on the road in the first round. This game should decide who is the No. 3 seed and who is No. 4.

Odom’s Pick: JCM 31, Union City 14

Jackson’s Pick: JCM 28, Union City 12

Ripley (1-7, 0-4 7-3A) at Obion County (3-5, 0-4)

Both of these teams are out of playoff contention. So both are just trying to gain momentum going into the offseason and trying to rebuild for a better 2027 season.

Odom’s Pick: Obion County 28, Ripley 7

Jackson’s Pick: Obion County 30, Ripley 10

Humboldt (8-0, 5-0 7-1A) at Gleason (0-8, 0-4)

The Region 7-1A champion travels to a winless Gleason team. The Bulldogs will put their best foot forward, but the Vikings seem to be rolling right now.

Odom’s Pick: Humboldt 42, Gleason 0

Jackson’s Pick: Humboldt 49, Gleason 0

Hardin County (4-4, 3-2 7-4A) at Lexington (8-0, 5-0)

Jackson’s Pick: Lexington

Huntingdon (8-0, 4-0 7-2A) at Peabody (5-3, 2-2)

Odom’s Pick: Huntingdon

Jackson’s Pick: Huntingdon

Gibson County (1-7, 0-5 7-2A) at Halls (2-6, 0-4)

Odom’s Pick: Halls

Jackson’s Pick: Halls

West Carroll (1-7) at Liberty (6-2)

Odom’s Pick: Liberty

Jackson’s Pick: Liberty

Haywood (6-2, 4-0 8-4A) at Ridgeway (1-7, 1-3)

Odom’s Pick: Haywood

Jackson’s Pick: Haywood

Harding Academy (3-5, 2-3 D2-A) at Fayette Academy (4-4, 1-3)

Odom’s Pick: Fayette Academy

Jackson’s Pick: Harding Academy

Fayette-Ware (3-5, 1-3 8-4A) at Kirby (4-4, 3-1)

Odom’s Pick: Kirby
