“Has anyone seen Victor today?”

“I haven’t,” Mirror Exchange co-owner Scarlet Elliot said.

I pull out my phone and dial Victor Parkins’ number.

“Hello!”

“Victor, isn’t it time to put a paper out?” I asked on Monday morning.

“It’s Fall Break,” Parkins responded. “Me and Wade Comer are out on the lake doing some fishing, and we are trying to figure out these new classifications and regions for the next two years that TSSAA will come out with in November.”

“I think you are running from the fact that I got another game lead on you this week,” I laughed.

“No, we are talking about Milan’s big 55-point shutout win over Union City,” Parkins replied.

“Sure…” I said.

“At least, I don’t have to hear about another undefeated week from you, since you missed two games,” Parkins replied.

I did miss two games last week with Trinity Christian Academy’s win over Jackson Christian and McEwen’s win over Dresden, but Parkins missed both of those also. Parkins also missed McNairy Central’s win over Obion County.

We both went 6-0 in picking Gibson County area games, and we are both 34-2 (.944 winning percentage) on the season.

For the season, I hold an eight-game lead. I am 93-12 (.886), while Parkins is 85-20 (.810).

Now for a light Week 8 with only two games in the Gibson County area:

Raleigh Egypt (5-2) at Peabody (4-3)

The Golden Tide picked up a Region 7-2A win last week, and now they will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season against a team on a five-game winning streak.

Gleason (0-7, 0-3 7-1A) at West Carroll (0-7, 0-4)

One of these teams will pick up their first win of the season and that would be huge as both programs work to rebuild. West Carroll held Lake County to 12 points, so they will try to have another big defensive game.
