“Michael, why are you hiding under your desk?” Victor Parkins asked early Monday morning.

“I think MawMaw is trying to hunt me down when I picked against her Hornets last week, and they won 35-0 over Dyer County,” I replied. “Mrs. Norma Austin isn’t one to mess with.”

“Oh, come on it can’t be that bad,” Parkins laughed.

“I have heard reports that she has orange and blue body paint and is going to paint stripes all over me,” I said, pulling my chair close as I heard the front door open.

“Well, maybe don’t pick against them this week?” Parkins said.

“Not a chance,” I whimpered. “Already got that game picked, South Gibson over Lexington.”

Parkins and myself tied on picks last week as we differed on two picks and each got one right, so Parkins stayed one game ahead of me.

We both went 11-4 and missed South Gibson’s win over Dyer County, Perry County’s win over Gleason and McNairy Central’s win over Bolivar. I missed Crockett County’s win over North Side, while Parkins missed Lexington’s win over South Side.

So in our Gibson County area picks, we went 5-1, so I am now 25-4 (.862 winning percentage) and Parkins is 23-6 (.793).

After six weeks, Parkins is 68-22 (.756) holding that one game over me at 67-23 (.744).

Here i hoping I can tie Parkins up in Week 7 action:

Milan (6-0, 3-0 7-2A) at Union City (2-4, 1-1)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The Bulldogs have their first real road test as quarterback Zak Summers returns to play the team he helped lead to a region title last season. But Milan can’t overlook the Golden Tornadoes as their defense keeps them in games.

South Gibson (3-3, 2-1 7-4A) at Lexington (5-1, 3-1)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Lexington is much improved over last season, and this is in Lexington’s new stadium. But South Gibson is hungry for an upset and riding high after last week’s win over Dyer County.

Halls (2-4, 0-2 7-2A) at Peabody (6-0, 3-0)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The Golden Tide are still unbeaten after six weeks of the season. Tab Vowell will have his guys ready for another home game and try to stay atop the Region 7-2A standings with Milan.

Gibson County (0-6, 0-3 7-2A) at JCM (1-5, 0-3)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Neither of these teams have picked up a region win yet. Gibson County will try to keep this game close, but the Cougars have lots of weapons.

Humboldt (2-4, 1-2 7-1A) at Greenfield (3-3, 1-1)

When: 7 p.m., Friday

The Vikings gave up 70 points last week in a loss to Dresden. Greenfield will try to ride that into picking up a third straight win on the season. Humboldt does have speed, so the Yellowjackets must keep them contained.

The War Eagles need to figure out a way to get the offense going well enough to pick up a Region 7-1A win. Lake County might be the place to get it done as the Falcons haven’t won a region game yet.
