Vivian Janette Buchanan

Vivian Janette Buchanan, affectionately known to many as “Granny,” was called home by our Lord on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at age 80. She resided at St. Matthew Manor West in Humboldt, Tennessee, along with her beloved pet cat, “Little Bit.”
Granny was a hard-working, resilient woman who did not shy away from night shifts working at the factory to support her family. She had a colorful employment history throughout her life, from working in cotton fields, being a seamstress, customer service at The Video Store (which only fueled her love of movies and of course, tanning!), to working in billing alongside her daughter Dina at Oncology Consultants of Jackson. However, her greatest and favorite joy in life was being a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the go-to babysitter for the entire family and cherished every minute she got to spend with all her grandbabies.
She was known to be an exceptional cook and no holiday was complete without her famous made-from-scratch dressing and homemade dessert pies (as she always said, you just have to have “something sweet” at the end of every meal). We like to imagine she’s now enjoying all the wrestling she can watch while drinking endless Sprites and listening to Elvis Presley in heaven.
Janette is survived by her daughter Dina Plaxico (husband Bobby), her son Terry Mainord (wife Ronda), her sister Donna Watkins (husband Butch), and her three grandchildren, Will Mainord, Jordan Hedges (husband William, son David) and Taryn Morris (husband Josh, son Bryce and daughter Sawyer Kate). She is preceded in death by her parents, Orene Carter Garrett and Donald Carter, her three brothers Ray Carter, Glenn Carter, Raymond Carter, and sister Dolly Franks.
Her memorial visitation was held at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home in Humboldt on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10 a.m..
