Top 15 high school coaching jobs in Weakley County during 2024-25 school year

Over the past two weeks we have looked back at the most memorable games and top teams from the 2024-25 school year in Weakley County.
Now, we will look at which Weakley County high school coaches did the best job leading their teams during the past year.
Here are the top 15 in Weakley County to do it in 2024-25:
1. Matt McConnell (Westview football) – McConnell had an immediate impact on the Chargers as he led them to the Class 3A state championship game. The Chargers held a 14-0 record going into the state title game before losing to Alcoa 40-21. Westview won the Region 7-3A championship with a 59-54 win over Covington. Westview shutout four opponents and held three others to one touchdown or less.
2. Tori Liggett (Greenfield girls basketball) – Liggett led the Lady Yellowjackets to the program’s second state championships. The Lady Yellowjackets got hot at the right time to win the Class 1A state championship after finishing third in District 14-1A. Greenfield finished the season with a 30-6 record. Greenfield finished in a three-way tie for first place in District 14-1A during the regular season but lost to Union City in the district semifinals to finish third.
3. Brandy Spendlove (Westview girls soccer) – Spendlove became the first coach to lead a West Tennessee public school to the Class 1A state championship match. Westview finished with an 18-6-1 record on the way to the state runner-up finish. Westview won the District 12-A and Region 6-A championships before beating Huntland in a sectional. At the state tournament, the Lady Chargers beat Lakeland Prep 4-0 and CSAS 5-1 to advance to the title game.
4. Aalia Bivens (Dresden softball) – In her first season in charge, the Lady Lions were back in the Class 1A state tournament. Dresden won the District 14-1A and Region 7-1A championships before earning a spot in the state tournament on a forfeit. The Lady Lions scored 12 runs in the state tournament and finished in the top eight of the state.
5. Brian Haskins (Westview girls basketball) – Haskins led the Lady Chargers to a third Class 2A state championship in four years. The Lady Chargers made a state-best 13th straight appearance in the Class 2A state tournament. In the state tournament, they beat East Nashville 48-30, Loretto 64-39 and York Institute 44-38. Westview suffered one loss in mid-December to finish the season with a 33-1 record.
6. Scott Guymon (Westview baseball) – Guymon led the Chargers to their first-ever appearance in the Class 2A state tournament. Westview won the District 14-2A regular season and tournament titles and beat Riverside and Adamsville to win the Region 7-2A championship. After a pair of wins over Trezevant, the Chargers were headed to the state tournament, and a 2-0 win over Sweetwater put Westview in the top six of the state tournament.
7. Albert Collins (Gleason softball) – Collins led the Lady Bulldogs to their best-ever finish as they were third in the District 14-1A regular season and tournament. Gleason had some battles with South Fulton, but Gleason eliminated the Lady Red Devils in the district tournament as the Lady Bulldogs were top three in District 14-1A for the first time in program history.
8. Jonathan West (Dresden girls basketball) – West led the Lady Lions back to the top of District 14-1A and helped them earn a spot in the state tournament. The Lady Lions made a postseason run to the Class 1A sectionals before losing to Middle College, one win short of a berth in the state tournament. Dresden finished the season with a 22-10 record. Dresden finished in a three-way tie for first in the district and earned the No. 1 seed through tiebreakers. The Lady Lions finished as the District 14-1A and Region 7-1A runner-up to earn a spot in sectionals.
9. Craig Rogers (Westview softball) – In his final season in charge of the program, Rogers led the Lady Chargers to a top-six finish in the Class 2A state tournament. Even with Tennessee signee McCall Sims missing three weeks, Westview still won the District 14-2A regular season title and tournament title before going on to win the Region 7-2A championship. The Lady Chargers advanced to state on a forfeit and beat Kingston 8-0 to finish in the top six of the Class 2A state tournament.
10. Justin Cruse (Dresden football) – Cruse was put in a tough spot in his first season in charge as the Lions were coming off a 1A sectional appearance. The Lions though won five of their last six games to finish fifth in the region standings. Dresden finished sixth in the district standings, one win from the title game.
11. Mike Riggs (Gleason boys basketball) – Riggs led the Bulldogs back to the District 14-1A title game and earned the team a home game in the Region 7-1A quarterfinals. Gleason went 18-13, finishing as the District 14-1A regular season and tournament runner-up before losing in the region quarterfinals to Halls.
12. Daniel Harris (Dresden baseball) – In his first season in charge, Harris helped lead the Lions to a third-place finish in Region 7-1A and one win away from a spot in sectionals. After losing the district tournament opener to Lake County, Dresden won three games to get back to the championship game before losing to Union City 1-0 to finish runner-up. In the region tournament, Dresden opened with a 10-0 win over Halls before losing to Union City and Bradford to finish third.
13. Willie Trevathan (Westview boys basketball) – Trevathan helped lead the Chargers back to the top of District 14-2A. The Chargers made a run to the Region 7-2A semifinals before falling to Jackson Central-Merry, who reached the quarterfinals of the Class 2A state tournament. Westview finished with a 19-10 record. The Chargers were the regular season runners-up in District 14-2A but won the district tournament title on the way to reaching the region semifinals.
14. Brandon Sims (Greenfield boys basketball) – Sims had his team ready to go in the postseason as the Yellowjackets reached the Region 7-1A tournament. Greenfield finished the season 12-20, but the team beat Lake County to open the District 14-1 tournament to earn a spot in the region tournament.
15. Johnny Growe (Greenfield baseball) – Growe led the Yellowjackets to the No. 1 seed in the District 14-1A tournament with a split against Union City to earn the No. 1 spot in the standings. Greenfield finished with a 19-6 record with a 9-1 mark in District 14-1A play.
