Top 5 Gibson County area high school basketball games in Week 3

Gibson Count’s Georgia Lannom goes up for a basket against Greenfield during a high school basketball game on Nov. 26, 2024.

Hoping all of the readers had a great Thanksgiving holiday with great food and time spent with family.

With my 5-0 start to the season, my Thanksgiving week was great. I picked all five games correctly for a 1.00 winning percentage.

But the third week of the season with bring some even tougher games:

Gibson County (4-2) at Union City (3-1) (Girls; 6 p.m. on Tuesday) – Both of Gibson County’s losses have come against teams that played in the Class 3A state tournament, including the defending state champion Dyersburg. Union City could be the best Class 1A team in West Tennessee, so this will be a good test on the road. But watch how Sania Reaves and Georgia Lannom work in the post.

Odom’s Pick: Gibson County

South Gibson (3-1) at Peabody (3-0) (Boys; 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday) – This is a rematch of the season opener that Peabody managed to pull away late in to get the victory. South Gibson has improved since then, so expect the Hornets to show a new level of competitiveness. But Peabody is undefeated so far.

Odom’s Pick: Peabody

Bradford (4-0) at Greenfield (2-3) (Boys; 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday) – The Red Devils have matched every test so far this season. Greenfield has a young team that has talent. Bradford will have to play well defensively, and watch for Carver Cates to hit some big 3-pointers.

Odom’s Pick: Bradford

Peabody (0-3) at Huntingdon (2-1) (Girls; 6 p.m. on Thursday) – The Lady Tide are looking for their first win of the season, and a win over a talented Huntingdon team would be huge. Huntingdon easily beat Bruceton and Carroll Academy but lost to South Gibson, so this will be a better gauge of how good this team will be.

Odom’s Pick: Huntingdon

Gleason (3-1) at Bradford (1-3) (Girls; 6 p.m. Friday) – The Lady Red Devils picked up their first win of the season last week. A second win in two weeks would be big for momentum. Gleason’s lone loss is to a Class 3A team, and the Lady Bulldogs hae played well since then.

Odom’s Pick: Gleason
