Vic vs. Odom: High School Football Pick’em Week 4

South Gibson’s Layton Robertson (7) runs the ball against Hardin County during a Region 6-4A high school football game at South Gibson on Sept. 6, 2024.

If anyone has been to a South Gibson football game, you have heard the yells of Norma Austin – also known as MawMaw. She has supported all of her grandchildren playing for the Hornets in all of the sports – Trent, Rylee and now Matthew.

While walking off the field on Friday, that distinct voice was yelling my way.

“Michael Odom, we proved you wrong.”

“Don’t listen to Odom, he missed this pick.”

I had to hear it all the way as I walked to the locker room before talking to South Gibson coach Ben Johnson after a big 20-3 win over Hardin County, where he also took jabs at me picking against the Hornets.

So it is noted, I better be sure before I pick against South Gibson because MawMaw is going to defend her Hornets.

That miss also helped Victor Parkins add one more game to his lead after three weeks of the season. Parkins went 12-3, while I went 11-4, to increase his lead to five games.

We both missed Halls beating Greenfield and FACS beating West Carroll. I missed South Gibson beating Hardin County and Lake County beating Dresden, while Parkins missed Gleason beating Bruceton.

So overall, Parkins is 38-7 (.844 winning percentage), while I am now 33-12 (.733).

Hoping for no shouts from MawMaw and win over Parkins, here is Week 4:

Christian County (Ky.) (0-2) at South Gibson (2-1)

This game could have huge playoff implications at the end of October. Both teams made the playoffs last year, but the Panthers are the team that has a win this season.

Odom’s Pick: South Gibson 33, Christian County 13

Vic’s Pick: South Gibson 40, Christian County 10

Adamsville (2-1, 0-1 6-2A) at Peabody (0-3, 0-1)

Last year, this matchup decided a playoff spot. Peabody showed last week that it had some talent, and this would be the perfect game for the Golden Tide to put it all together.

Odom’s Pick: Peabody 24, Adamsville 18

Vic’s Pick: Peabody 21, Adamsville 14

Camden (2-1, 0-1 6-2A) at Milan (3-0, 1-0)

The Bulldogs seem to be rolling right now, but Camden is not a team that can be overlooked under new head coach John Ross Hudson. Don’t expect Wade Comer to overlook them.

Odom’s Pick: Milan 36, Camden 8

Vic’s Pick: Milan 40, Camden 14

Humboldt (2-1, 0-0 7-1) at Greenfield (2-1, 1-0)

The Vikings have won back-to-back games for the first time since 2022. Now they will try to win a Region 7-1A game for the first time in two years.

Odom’s Pick: Humboldt 22, Greenfield 21

Vic’s Pick: Humboldt 34, Greenfield 20

Gibson County (0-3, 0-1 6-2A) at Riverside (2-1, 1-0)

The Pioneers are going through growing pains as Kyle Pack tries to rebuild the Gibson County program. Riverside is the defending Class 2A champions

Odom’s Pick: Riverside 38, Gibson County 6

Vic’s Pick: Riverside 45, Gibson County 7

West Carroll (2-1, 0-0 6-1A) at Perry County (0-3, 0-1)

The War Eagles’ defense gave up some big points last week against FACS. That will be a focus this week in practice because the Region 6-1A opener for West Carroll is here.

Odom’s Pick: West Carroll 21, Perry County 14

Vic’s Pick: West Carroll 28, Perry County 10
