About Us

The Milan Mirror-Exchange is the product of two newspapers merging in 1977.
The Milan Exchange was founded in 1874 and enjoyed a successful run as Milan’s leading newspaper until The Milan Mirror came to town in June of 1965.
Bob Parkins, a local dairy man, and his wife, Dorris, started The Milan Mirror and purchased The Milan Exchange in ’77. The couple chose to call their “new” creation The Milan Mirror-Exchange.
Parkins served as owner, publisher and editor of the newspaper until his death in April of 2008.
His son, Victor, has continued the family legacy as editor, while Mrs. Parkins is still the publisher. Three of the Parkins’ daughters are also involved in the family business. Melanie Day, Scarlet Elliott and Paris Parkins lend their talents to everything from advertising and subscription services to photography and lay out design.
Throughout the years, The Mirror-Exchange has won countless awards for excellence in reporting from the Tennessee Press Association and the Tennessee School Boards Association.
The Milan Mirror-Exchange boasts a circulation of 5,400 and covers Milan and the surrounding area including Medina, Bradford and Atwood.
